Try going to ancestry.com or rootsweb.com. Both have family boards, I believe. There, members of the same family from across the country post their inquiries, and their own information, which can be accessed by other family members. I personally got tons of information dating back about three centuries about my father's family from one communication posted by a family member who I didn't even know.
