You may even want to search at a genealogy library. Usually the librarian if very helpful with questions. There may even be a start up kit there as well. Be sure you record names, date of birth, place born (include city, county and state), date of death and where. Pictures are very helpful with the location it was taken. Each person will be a number. You will be # 1, with your father #2 and mother #3. It is very time consuming, but well worth it in the long run. My daughter receieved Grand Champion in Genealogy for 4-H all four years.
